This weekend was the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. Every year "The Hillbilly Millionare" Warren Hellman, a kind investment banker, reserves Golden Gate Park and books a weekend full of his favourite performers to come and play for free. The bill ranged from traditional mountain bluegrass to acts as far off the path as MC Hammer. While the Hammer may taint your opinion of the festival, it shouldn't. The venue is great and you get 5 stages to select from.
While we missed Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Friday night, we did get to see a number of decent acts on Saturday and Sunday. This weeks playlist will include a track from each person we saw... when possible I'll include a track they played.
Finally, while not directly related, Paul Newman died this week and we want to recognize that. In keeping with our banjo flovoured weekend, I'll drop a little track from one of my favourite Newman flicks, Cool Hand Luke.

just remembered that I forgot to include Mickey Hart (of the Grateful Dead with Zakir Hussain (one of the all time greatest Tabla players). They did this giant trippy hippie set, but Zakir's solo was my favourite. Dig it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As1OMMcHXFs
